Biography
Finalist at the 62nd “Tenor Viñas” International Singing Competition in Barcelona and winner of the 75th AsLiCo International Competition 2024 in the role of Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Matteo Torcaso trained at the Conservatorio “F. Torrefranca”, the Accademia d'Arte Lirica in Osimo, and the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, completing the two-year program there in 2024.
The 2025/26 season saw him take the stage at major Italian and European theatres: Barone di Trombonok in Il viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival, Moralès in Carmen across a wide circuit in Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna (Brescia, Cremona, Como, Modena, Piacenza, Ravenna), Sagrestano in Tosca at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro Regio in Turin, and Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Grand Opera House in Belfast.

In 2024/25 season he sang Frate Tuck in the world premiere of Michele Dall'Ongaro's Robin Hood at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari - a role he later took on tour to the Royal Opera House Muscat - as well as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte for Opera Lombardia and Moralès in Carmen at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. In the previous season he debuted the title role in Don Pasquale in Siena and sang Il sagrestano in Tosca, conducted by Daniele Gatti, at the 86th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival.
His steadily growing repertoire ranges from Dulcamara (L'elisir d'amore) to Dandini (La Cenerentola), and from Falstaff to Mustafà (L'italiana in Algeri), performed at leading Italian theatres - including Teatro San Carlo in Naples and Teatro delle Muse in Ancona - under conductors such as Daniele Gatti and Giacomo Sagripanti.

Matteo Torcaso is the charlatan Dr Dulcamara. I repeat: He is Dulcamara, full stop. Prissy, astute and cunning even in his incursions into the audience. Mature is the baritone voice and so is the phrasing that holds up well during the athletic agility required by the playful demands of the direction.
