Arsenii Moon

Pianist
Winner of the 64th Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, Arsenii Moon also won the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize, awarded only in the event of a unanimous jury verdict, a recognition that had not been awarded for almost three decades.

Biography

Following his victory at the 64th Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, Arsenii Moon has emerged as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. His triumph came with rare distinction - not only the competition's top prize, but also the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Award, bestowed solely upon unanimous jury decision and granted for the first time in nearly three decades. The public shared this enthusiasm, awarding him the Audience Prize through the competition's international online platform.

This prestigious achievement has launched an extraordinary 2024/25 season spanning recitals and orchestral collaborations across major venues in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, South Korea and Japan, featuring prestigious halls such as Konzerthaus Vienna, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Seoul Arts Center, Tonhalle Zurich, and Gewandhaus Leipzig, alongside recording projects with Deutsche Grammophon and the ORF Vienna Radio Orchestra.

The 2025/26 season presents eagerly anticipated debuts with the Filarmonica della Scala and Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, alongside collaborations with the Weimar Staatskapelle, Danish Philharmonic Orchestra, and Münchener Kammerorchester, and appearances in prestigious festivals and recital series such as the Festival Strings Lucerne and the Fribourg International Piano Series. Notable highlights include performances at Vienna's Musikverein, Berlin's Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal, Bonn's Beethoven-Haus, Prague's Smetana Hall, Hamburg's Laeiszhalle, and Barcelona's Palau de la Música Catalana.

Deutsche Grammophon featured Arsenii in their 125th anniversary celebrations, including him in the "Rising Stars" section of their STAGE+ platform with an audiovisual concert portrait of the Busoni Competition's final, while his interpretations of Debussy's Feux d'artifice and Cloches à travers les feuilles, and Satie's Gnossienne No. 3, appear in the label's compilation 100 Great Musical Moments alongside Daniel Barenboim, Hélène Grimaud, Kian Soltani, and Andreas Ottensamer.

Born in St Petersburg in 1999, Arsenii began studying piano at six with Elena Zyabreva, making his orchestral debut with the St Petersburg Philharmonia at just ten years old. He continued his studies with Alexander Sandler from 2010 to 2017, first at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory's music school, then at the conservatory itself, before completing his degree at The Juilliard School under Sergei Babayan in 2024. The musical partnerships that have shaped his development include leading conductors such as Stanislav Kochanovsky, Joseph Swensen, Mei-Ann Chen, Dmitri Matvienko, Mark Russell Smith, Ian Hobson, and Valery Gergiev.

"Elbphilharmonie becomes a spiritual place with Arsenii Moon," wrote Marcus Stäbler in the Hamburger Abendblatt. "Arsenii Moon not only combines musicality, incredibly nimble fingers and a phenomenal sense of sound. His performance also exudes the magic that distinguishes an exceptional artist from very good musicians."
